How can anyone know
Who’s underneath their coat?
Feel stranded on our own
Find out ways to cope
Who could ever decide
Which path in the divide?
Used to seem so obvious
But twisted up with time
Warm, hollow lies buried quiet in their rooms
Or torn, weathered eyes and they keep trying to listen
How can anyone breathe?
We’ve turned into machines
Made it easier to sleep,
And crucify our dreams
Think it’s anyone’s guess
Where we’ll drift up next
And we don’t know who to trust
When our shadow knows us best
But It can’t speak,
Or tell us what we need
It can’t leave,
Or question what it sees
Warm, hollow lies buried quiet in their rooms
Or torn, weathered eyes and they keep trying to listen
